the Shrine
The Blessed Diego & Saint Pedro Shrine stands as a testament to Guam’s rich spiritual heritage. It marks the sacred ground where Father Diego Luis de San Vitores and his assistant Pedro Calungsod made the ultimate sacrifice for their Catholic faith in 1672.
As a sacred space for worship, reflection, and cultural preservation, the shrine serves as a cornerstone for spiritual enrichment and historical appreciation.

TIMELINE
History of the Shrine

April 2, 1672
Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores and Saint Pedro Calungsod were martyred in Guam.

1674-1676
A chapel was built by Don Damian de Esplana at the site of their martyrdom.

1886
A historical marker was placed at the site.

1918
A typhoon devastated the area, but the chapel was rediscovered in 1939.

1940
The current shrine marker was placed.

1947
The site was donated to the Church by Vincente Ana Palomo, a descendant of the Ada Family.

2023
The Ada Family repurchased the property from the Archdiocese of Agana, committing to its ongoing stewardship.
